The Society of Chinese-American Aerospace Engineers (SCAAE) was established in 1989 with a mission to advance the well-being of Chinese-American aerospace engineers, to provide a forum for engineers, college professors and students to exchange their knowledge and experiences, and to create business opportunities for the future entrepreneurs. Over the last 19 years, it has evolved into an outstanding professional organization with over 500 members in Southern California, Seattle, and Texas. The successful legacy built up to date is clearly related to everyone’s support and dedication to this organization.
This year we shall continuously build upon our success. Our primary focus will be making this organization more dynamic and attractive. To achieve this goal, we need to build multiple functional teams consisting of long-time board members and new players, covering multiple areas including new member service, re-designing the website, regular newsletters, more frequent technical seminars, and high-quality annual convention etc.
Another focus would be on helping our student members and young aerospace engineers to establish their technical background and expand their career goals. As many of you here already know, the current aerospace industry is facing a serious workforce aging issue. The latest report shows that half of Northrop-Grumman’s 120,000 workforce are about to retire within the next 5 to 10 years. Other aerospace and defense companies such as Lockheed, Boeing and Honeywell are no better in this regard. Therefore, devoting some time to help our young fellow engineers not only serves SCAAE’s mission statement, but also benefits the aerospace companies we are working for, and even the country we are living in now.
These are obviously not easy jobs. Without the support from you, whether it is time, idea, talent, or money, it would be impossible to turn these attractive goals into reality. We rely on your continuing support. Together we shall make the SCAAE better, and together we shall make the aerospace industry better.
Thank you very much.Frank Lin, Ph.D., P.E.
